• Coach-of-the-Week: Sandra Ben-Yedder

Our Coach-Of-The-Week, Sandra Ben-Yedder a.k.a. G.I.Jane, is the perfect example of what it means to lead a healthy active lifestyle! Her character, drive and passion have made her one of the most inspiring Fit Coaches at FitClub24!

Being Coach-Of-the-Week is a great honor for me because it represents an amazing journey of self-discovery, finding self-confidence and pursuing ones passions. When I sat back to write this blog post, I realized that YES, life really is a series of events that leads you to discover your true calling. It is also an amazing path directed by the people you meet. That being said, there are 3 very powerful quotes that I live by, the first being; “In life you meet people for a REASON, a SEASON or a LIFETIME!”.

When you take the time to sit back and look at your path, you realize that the people you have met (whether for good or for bad) have helped guide you to where you are today. Who knew that over 10 years ago I would walk into a Mixed Martial Arts gym and soon after meet my mentor? Actually, who knew that kicking a guy in the head a few times would turn into a great friendship and that would lead me to become a Fit Coach at FitClub24?

How did I discover FitClub24? I walked into the club over a year ago, excited and thrilled to help support my friend Rob Rivest who had recently talked to me about a new project. After a class, I was HOOKED! Proud of his accomplishments and having falling in love with the family-vibe at FitClub24, I kept coming back. One bootcamp after another I became more involved, cheering for others, leading bootcamp stations and supporting complete strangers. I had taught a few classes at my previous MMA gym and loved the feeling of helping others. When Rob’s mentors, Mark Lachance and Sonya Fernandez approached me about becoming a Fit Coach I knew I had the opportunity to take a hidden passion and turn it into my work!

At the time, I was being the so-called “CRAZY Sandra” that I am, and was busy training for my first Triathlon. With the support of the FitClub24 team, I decided to focus on that goal and put becoming a Fit Coach on hold for a few months. But this was not to my detriment. As a Fit Coach, I believe that it is very important to come from diverse backgrounds and have many different experiences, challenges and goals that will help you inspire your clients. I look back at all my fitness/sport experiences and I am proud of all those accomplishments for they have given me the character and drive that I have today. Years ago I decided that my life would be limitless! I would try everything at least once, I would push my limits further and ultimately I would be passionately curious! Like Albert Einstein once said “I have no special talents, I am only PASSIONATELY CURIOUS!”. Because of experiences like; earning my black belt in Kyokushin Karate, training Muay Thai in Thailand, running several half marathons, completing a triathlon and running Montreal-NYC, my own mental strength and focus have now helped me inspire others to achieve their goals, to remove the obstacles of “I CAN’T” OR “IT’S IMPOSSIBLE” and prove to them that everything is in fact…POSSIBLE. Whether it’s to lose 5-20-50 pounds, run a 10km race OR climb the stairs of Mount-Royal several times. It is what I like to call the GI.JANE FACTOR!

I have now been a Fit Coach for almost a year! With amazing mentors like Rob Rivest, Sonya Fernandez, Mark Lachance and Sean Lewis, I have been able to grow in this industry. I have learned more about fitness, nutrition and entrepreneurship in one year than I ever thought possible. I have learned even more; to dream big, work hard towards my goals, push my limits and inspire others in the process. Every day, I have the opportunity to help my peers, build strong relationships with strangers and inspire other coaches to do the same. I truly aspire to inspire and hope that someday I can help thousands of people achieve their fitness and health goals. What gives me shivers the most as a Fit Coach is seeing someone get that “MENTAL SWITCH” – that single moment when they realize all of a that they just accomplished what they thought was impossible and now see that they can do ANYTHING! It is a split second realization but it is priceless and very humbling!

If I can live by the words of Maya Angelou; “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will NEVER FORGET HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL”, I will be the happiest person alive!

    Keep dreaming
    Keep smiling
    Keep reaching for new goals

Thank you FitClub24 for bringing out the FIRE in me and for making my PASSION my LIFE!

    Much love,
    Coach Sandra Ben-Yedder, aka GI.JANE!
